Atlas Gave Up

I gave up on reading "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand. Dhyana recommended this book and I didn't want to give up, but damn. First of all, it's not an easy read. This alone wouldn't have made me give up. I tried very hard to care about the characters and I just never did. Once in a while, the writing style kept me interested; mostly her physical descriptions of the steel mills and surrounding areas. But, I just never became emotionally involved. I didn't think about the story, I didn't wonder what the characters were doing when I wasn't reading them. For me,
that's the mark of a great book. When I miss it when I'm not reading it, when I can't wait to get back there.

I hate to give up on books. It's just not fair. The last time I gave up on a book was a free book someone was giving out at the Colorado State Fair. It was free for a reason. It stunk. The writing was horrible and cliche'. Lila writes better than that.

So I'm now reading "Prodigal Summer" by Barbara Kingsolver. She's one of my favorite authors. And it's time for me to get back there right now.

i'm tellin ya, it took me a long time to get into it. but seriously yo, it's a classic. like, all the people I talk to who've finished it say it's pretty much their favorite book ever or often throw around terms like "bible." try fountainhead. give it time, it's an acquired taste. Courtney, the most likely english major who reads way more than you or I do, announced that she would write her dissertation on in upon finishing it. And she's barely halfway through her undergrad. Take each chapter like a big epic poem and decide to allow yourself a long span of time to finish it. Like I said, it took me over a semester.

Accept your bohemian inner-self.

Bohemians were associated with unorthodox or antiestablishment political or social viewpoints, which were often expressed through extramarital sexual relations, frugality, and/or "voluntary poverty".

You mean like this...cuz dang!
