I'm making a few Christmas cards this year. I wasn't inspired at all last year.
This year, my inspiration stemmed from Carla. My sushi/chick-flick/literary pal from school. She recently got into stamping and card making. She likes the crafty stuff, but she's also using it as motivation in her journey to quit smoking. She saves all the money she would've spent on smokes and buys crafty stuff with it. A few weeks ago, she invited me to "Stamp Camp". It was an all-day affair where you learn about 5 different card-making projects. Turned out she was sick that day so I went by myself. It was held at a lady's house down in the Broadmoor area of town. That's the ritzy part of town. The lady had a large, pretty house and all the attendees were...how you say in Low German....upper middle class white girls with a little money to burn. Oh wait, I was there, too. Nevermind.
Anywho, it was fun. So many toys, so little time. It gave me a few ideas. I finally have a design I like. It's a little labor intensive so I probably won't make too many. I'll probably just make some for the people I won't see over the holidays. So if you don't get one it's just cuz I'm gonna see you in person. Or I really don't like you that much. Doh!
Carla accused me of being a paper snob since I don't like very many store-bought cards. After a little self-reflection I realized this is true. I hate cheesy, sappy, goopy, overly-sentimental cards. Or cards that reflect a profound lack of interest on the senders part. I am a paper snob.
All I can say is she better not be sick tomorrow. We're s'posed to go see "Love In The Time Of Cholera". She was feeling kinda cold-ish today. But we had sushi for lunch since we had first aid and CPR training today so hopefully the wasabi kicked the snot out of her.
