It's been a very cool and wet week. Had to close the window last night. It's 45 degrees this morning.
I'm up to year 1995 on my photo project. Lila shows up at the end of this year. Until then, I'm enjoying looking at all the photos of Dhyana, Micaela, Holly and little Grace. These girls were our neighbors back in Kirkwood. Their mom, Kathy, is one of my best friends. She and I don't talk often anymore; sometimes life takes you on differnt paths, but I still consider one of my best friends, we still visit when I go to STL, and her kids are still friends with my kids. Dhyana and Micaela still keep in touch across the country (Micaela is in Oregon now, Dhyana in Kansas). Lila is friends with Holly and Grace on Facebook.
Speaking of Lila, she and I went shopping the other day. She needed shin guards and shorts for soccer. I needed fabric. Ok, I didn't NEED fabric. Shhhh. Lila bought this smell-good lotion from Bath and Body. Lila is a fragrance hound. She loves perfumes and lotions and anything that has a scent. And I really, really don't. I never have. I don't like any women's perfumes. I do, however, enjoy a good man's cologne. Go figure. But anything smelly for girls, I really don't like. So I have to suck it up when Lila is perfumed up. Crack the windows in the car, etc. She makes the cat smell like her.
Dhyana was home for a few days last week. It was good to have her home. We're a fairly boring family, but sometimes you need a whole bunch of nothing.
I've also been sewing. I've been trying my hand at altering store-bought patterns. Clothes I buy in the store never quite fit properly. Always too big in the shoulders. I'm only trying shirts right now. If I'm happy with the results, I might try pants. It's hard to find petite (I'm not short, I'm fun-sized) pants in my size that I can wear to work. I need pants with pockets for my work keys which I have to keep on my person at all times. If I don't have pockets, I have to wear them on my wrist on one of those coiled-up stretchy thingies, which I don't like, or around my neck on a lanyard, which I don't like either. Although, the lanyard always reminds of the Billy Collins' poem "The Lanyard". Which is one of the most brilliant poems of all time. But I digress. So, I'll let you know if the shirt turns out.
At the Woodland Park Farmer's Market, I met these people who have started community gardens. I think they got some grant money or something. Anywho, they have several spots for the gardens and one of them is right across the highway from me. So, tonight, I'm going to meet one of the ladies who runs and see what I can do to get started. I asked the guy last week if it was too late to start this year and he said no. He said there was still time to grow some lettuce, possibly some broccoli. I'll find out more tonight. If it's not raining that it is!
