This Much Is True

Time was, whenever I had some time off work, I could stay up and power read until 2 or 3 in the morning. I know that makes me sounds terribly geeky, but underneath my ultra-cool exterior, I really am terribly geeky. But this geek has been having issues with insomnia and the past 4-5 nights have been really good. So when I read at night and my eyeballs tell me it's time to go night-night, I listen. I do make it until about 11 or 11:30. For some crazy reason, I just don't like to read during the day. I did sneak in a few pages during CSAPs. Shh! Don't tell anyone. But night time is the right time for me. I guess cuz everything is quiet, everyone's asleep. No distractions and no temptation to go do anything else.

Even though I'm not power reading this week, I still have a great book. Nothing worse than having time to read and having a crappy book. "I Know This Much Is True" by Wally Lamb. It's about twin brothers, one of whom suffers from mental illness. The writing is just awesome. It's awesome cuz awesome writing makes you forget about the writing. All you get is story. There's no clunkiness. A bad actor draws attention to the fact that they're acting. A bad writer does the same. An awesome writer disappears. When I find myself during the day thinking about the characters, wondering what they're doing right now, what's going to happen when I find out tonight, that's an awesome book.

And proves I've got street cred as a geek.
