Sentimental Journey

Last night, Don and I went to the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and saw "Sentimental Journey". It was a big band/swing show with a little rag time and Dixieland thrown in for good measure.

They had a female vocalist who could carry those types of songs, as well as one of the trumpet players who also sang...like Louis Armstrong. And there was also a man who did a little act like FDR. He came out in his wooden wheelchair and gave little introductions and historical tidbits about the era.

They took out the first few rows of seats and created a little dance floor for audience members who wanted to come down and dance. We didn't, Don said he wasn't wearing his dancing shoes, but we were in the row right behind the dance floor partition. I enjoyed watching the dancers as much as I enjoyed the music. The older couples, all gray and shrunken, but dancing like it's nobody's business. And they danced a lot! If they faltered or lost their step, they just laughed and fell into each other.

It was a great performance. Whoever pulled that all together did a great job.

Coincidentally, Lila just told me about Project Playlist. You can create your own playlists for blogs and stuff. I'm sure all the young whippersnappers out there already knew about, but it's new to me! So I put most of the songs we heard last night up there. A few weren't available through this Project Playlist thingy. They didn't have "I'll Be Seeing You", "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You", "Begin The Beguine" and "Stardust".

Speaking of old things, one of my fellow teachers is taking a Photoshop class. He asked me if I had any old, decrepit photos he could use to practice repair jobs on. I said, why yes, I certainly do! So yesterday I'm looking for the disc where all my old, decrepit photos are and I can't find it to save me life. I called Richard to ask him if he could send them to me since his computer was were I originally scanned them in last Christmas. Well, he sent them to me, but I think his email program automatically shrunk them cuz they's TOO tiny to use! As I was running around the house still trying to find the original disc, Don says, "Whatcha doing?" I tell him the whole sordid mess and he says,"Well, ya know, I've got that whole chest full of old photos from Granny's house out in the garage." Well, ya know, I forgot about those. So I dug all those old photos out, and there were many, and started looking through them. There were only a handful that had people from his family that I recognized. There were 4 gallon size ziploc bags full and many larger ones that were in those old timey fancy cardboard folders. We took them up to his parents this morning to see if they could identify any. Don's mom could identify a few. There's gonna be just oodles of them that will be lost to anyone's memory. But they are fabulous. I will think of something to do with them. I won't get rid of them. I think I'll start scanning them at work and posting them. Just for the heck of it. Maybe invent stories about those people nobody remembers anymore.
