Billy Collins
I tried to embed the video, but it wouldn't take for some reason. Please click!!
Last night, Carla and Andrea and I, went to hear a reading by Billy Collins. He's a former US Poet Laureate and a freekin' genius.
I discovered years ago that poetry was meant to be heard and not just read.
It was a school night and snowing to boot, but I'm so glad I went anyway. It was pure salve for the soul. Pure indulgence in the word. Pure joy to hear his voice and laugh out loud. And he is pretty darn funny. Not every poem is funny, but enough to buoy you up through the serious ones. And his humor is subtle and geeky and kinda naughty sometimes.
The video is about an hour long, but if you can settle in with a cup of tea and a cookie, it's so worth your time.
