Haiku

These are photos of Zorro or Zorra. The top one is summer coat, the bottom is winter coat.

I found a little 6x6 inch spiral sketchbook that I got for free last fall at the art teachers conference in Pue'lo hiding under a book last week. I decided to make it my haiku book. I keep it by my bed. I typically compose in the car driving to and from work, counting the syllables on my fingers like any self-respecting math genius would. But then I would forget by the time I got around to my computer. With my handy-dandy notebook now, I can jot them down before I read at night and then publish whenever the heck I feel like it. I'm liking the system so far.

Just so's you know, I rarely edit haiku. The only time I make changes are when the syllable don't fit. As such, some are good, some are...not so much. It's the way of the haiku.

I could tell it was
Zorra who followed Zorro.
She squatted to pee.

Driving down the pass
slate gray clouds split the sky like
they were the ocean.

Torn and ripped away
like orphans, the spring storm clouds
across the mountains.
