Hmm.....I went back to some writing done back and forth between me and my great friend, Kathy.
First she wrote:
Long Distance
Jennifer said this new love surprised her, that he had opened her heart like
the rising sun
I thought, then be surprised baby, all day, every day, live
surprised
Jennifer said you could see the Milky Way from his front yard in the
mountains, every night
Does it make you dizzy I asked? Can you feel the swirl?
Oh yes, she said, and it makes it clear how close to the brink we all are
She said she wanted to marry him, then
thanked me for the card I sent her with a starry night
and said how perfect it was because
He'd just gotten a new telescope that same day
so powerful the moon could leave the picture while you were looking at it
I said, don't worry, it'll be back, it follows you wherever you go, haven't
you noticed that?
Jennifer said her girls thought it was still too soon after their dad's
death, and she'd hoped
it would be easier for them to accept him
I said, give it time, I bet they'll come around, like the moon.
Then I wrote:
Kathy Said
Kathy said, "You've paid your dues."
What dues?
I don't feel like I've paid anything.
I feel like everything has been given to me
Gifts
Some more apparent than others
Some only in hindsight
One fleeting moment of exquisite
Life
After another.
I cannot wear sunglasses anymore
Blinded by the light!
Kathy said,"You deserve to be happy."
Why?
Am I special? Is my experience anymore
Extraordinary
Than anyone else's?
I think not...but...don't
Ordinary
People deserve happiness?
I spiritually pinch myself...
The moon moves so fast!
No! That's me who's spinning!
Be careful what you wish for.
I walked naked around the house.
I splurged on a $22 haircut (oh hell!
I'd pay $22 just for the sublime pleasure of having someone wash my hair)
I ate too many M&Ms.
I got out of breath climbing the hill.
I saw a vapor trail going straight up the sky in an
Exclamation Point.
Kathy said, "Slurp it up!"

that's some powerful stuff. you should try to call Kathy more.
I bet you pay even more than $22 for a haircut now. I do. It's worth it. Oh, so many frivolous things we do now that he wouldn't have approved of.
Kathy and I have connected back up again after some down time. It's all good.
Um...yea...I pay quite a bit more than $22 for a haircut. Shhh....
