Lila doesn't like social studies very much. At least not the Sumerians, Babylonians, Phoenicians and Hebrews. Many of the questions she has to answer in her homework are subjective. Lila is a math and science kind of gal. She likes things nice and objective.
One of her questions last night was something like, "Why do think monotheism is more widely practiced in our modern world than polytheism?"
My answer was something like, "In our busy modern times, we just don't have the time to pray to all those gods! Who has time to pray to the cow god and the well water god and the good husband god and the good weather god? With monotheism, you just have to make one call and bam! you're done!"
Not sure what she actually wrote as her answer.
Although, come to think of it, Catholicism is a thinly veiled polytheistic religion. They pray to The Father, The Holy Mother, the Savior Son and a cast of thousands of Saints who perform as lesser deities. No wonder so many of my friends are Catholics!
Apparently I haven't been praying hard enough to my glow-in-the-dark St. Clare statue cuz the big screen TV that Don contributed to the household when we got married is fixing to bite the dust.
Lila says she'll be more interested in their next social studies unit. It's Egypt. They're going to mummify a chicken.
