Two Judiths

Here are two paintings of the same Bible story, Judith and Holofernes. As you can tell, Judith is cutting of Holofernes' head.

One was painted by a man, Caravaggio, and the other was painted by a woman, Gentileschi.

Can you you guess which is which? Don't look it up until you make a guess. I'll know!

Dhyana can't play, she's taking an art history class right now.

ok well we're not studying THESE paintings in my art history class at the moment so I can say whatever the hell I want.
I don't really know the story of these two folk cause the bible ain't really my cup o' tea as you may have guessed... but I'm gonna say the top one was by a woman. There she actually looks pissed off and her body is in a position to be able exert some force, which I presume is slightly necessary in a decapitation. The woman in the bottom picture looks like a confused twelve year old whose arms are in the proper position to be making a bed or something appropriately delicate. And the other woman in the top picture is actually helping hold the guy down, since you know men are strong and may resist being decapitated as the bottom picture doesn't seem to admit to. Well I don't know the story of these two characters or how the artists would feel about their story, but the first one is just more realistic to how I would imagine this action would take place.
They've both got red fabric. And dark backgrounds. Top picture woman is middle-aged & not especially attractive, bottom she is young and pretty.
